Abstract
During August and october 1964, Japanese encephalitis epidemic occured in Korea. This papaer presents the results of serodiagnesed at the national Institute of health during the epidemic season.
According to the report issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, the cumulative number of japanese encephalitis cases reported were 2,957 of which 952 were fatal (case fatality rate 32 %).
As shown in table 1, the later part of August and the earlier part of September, the most high incidence showed in Chulla-buk-do and Kyung-sang-buk-do subsguently.
In the National Institute of Health, 1,636 acute blood specimens and 108 paired blood specimens were tested by means of H-I test.
The results indicated as shown in Table 2, among the acute specimens 1,387 cases (86.7%) were H-I titer of less lthan 1 : 10, 213 cases (13.3%) were H-I titer of moer than 1 : 10 and only 25 cases titer of more than 1 : 160.
As shown in table 4, among the paired blood specimens, 46 cases rised antibody titer more than four fold.
